Movie/book reviews

Written so there is a minimal amount of spoilers, mainly to convince you to look/not look into a work :)
These are mainly sci-fi or historical, as those are what is interesting to me, but if you have a recommendation, I'd be happy to hear you out!

Types of content (Does not work yet)

2001: A Space odyssey (1968)

The book makes more sense than the film, although they are both excellent. The book is deeper and makes a better explanation of motivations and the beginning and ending. I do love me some nerding out over space stations and all the technology present. This piece is also interesting from a historical standpoint, especially now that were well past 2001 and there is still no space travel, and no conscious AIs *wink*.

Slaughterhouse 5 (1969)

This is a book I read for school, and highly recommend. The way it's written does not highlight the plot, but how the moments feel. To me, it seems like it is being told from the future as flashbacks, but that is never explicitly confirmed. (I also think that the 'disconnected from time' part is simply trauma-induced and not actually happening). Slaughterhouse 5 is very anti-war and shows suffering and shock constantly, never glorifying what is happening. I read this book in Finnish.

Stalker (1979)

A very slow-paced film with an interesting style of filming. The film feels very delicate and soft-spoken, which seems to be the point. To support this, a quote I would like to bring up is:
Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.
The main characters wander in nature in what's called the Zone and must be careful to respect it. The softness, respect of nature and imagery of destroyed weaponery all showcase a theme of looking at world from other perspectives than your own. The people do want to get as far away as possible from understanding, though, reflecting on the world's willful ignorance.
